Our university hosted OPET board member Nurten Öztürk on 17.04.2019 within the scope of “ASBU Talks”. The meeting was attended by academicians, students and listeners from outside the university. It was held in the ASBU Rectorate building Güvercinlik Hall. During the interview, Nurten Öztürk gave information about “Social Responsibility Projects”.Ms Öztürk emphasized that before the founding of OPET Petrolcülük A.Ş. with her husband in 1992, she was a teacher and that she is above all an educator. She shared her satisfaction with participating in an event at a university and explained the principles of "social responsibility projects" of OPET.
When she started working in the male-dominated industry, she was considered by many to be strange, but she believed in the power of women and always acted on the principle of “service to people”. After this prinizp she also branded the OPET brand. Öztürk said that social responsibility projects can only be realized with social sensitivity, and with the will to create a difference and an awareness. It is important to identify problems of our country and the world and to act problem-solving. She pointed out that the issue of toilet and traffic was a civilization problem, and in 2000, when she started to work with the “Clean Toilet” campaign, she explained how the letters of gratitude she received encouraged her for these projects. In all social responsibility projects of the OPET, Ozturk explained, they start with educating the people and they convince them of the service and involve them in their work.
Nurten Öztürk also gave information about OPET's “Clean Toilet” Campaign, which has been carried on for years, as well as other projects carried out by the company. OPET is trying to address global problems such as global warming by planting trees on behalf of customers who buy a certain amount of fuel from their stations with the “Green Road” project. OPET's “Traffic Detectives” project, which is carried out with the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, aims to transform the future driver candidates into individuals who are aware of the traffic rules and who take responsibility in this matter.
The projects “Respect to History”,” Model Village” and “Troja-Tesvikiye Arkeo-Village” aim the recovery of the historical villages and places for tourism purposes by the maintenance of their natural structure. In the "Women's Power" project, which is a new project, it is aimed to support women's employment by increasing the number of women working at OPET stations.
Ozturk explained that all these long-lasting projects are trying to help shape a conscious society and that the feedback they receive makes them very happy. Further, she explained that as a company, they are proud of their productivity and open to new ideas and projects.
The interview met with great interest and ended with congratulations and thanks. The thank-you-plaque presented her to Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Danışman.
