11TH  SCHOOL OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES DIRECTORS’ MEETING

School of Foreign Languages Directors’ Meeting was first held in the early 2000s with the participation of a small group of directors to discuss and suggest solutions to the academic and administrative issues related to foreign language teaching in higher education. It has become a growing platform with the participation of more universities in later years.

SSUA School of Foreign Languages hosted the 11th Annual SFL Directors’ Meeting with the participation of more than 170 directors from 100 universities in Turkey and the North Cyprus on October 26-27, 2017. Representatives from various educational institutions like IDP IELTS, TOEFL, TORFL (Testing of Russian as a Foreign Language), British Council, American Embassy, Pearson, MacMillan, OUP, CUP, English Central, guest speakers from Oxford and Harvard University, Prof.Dr.HasanMandal, Deputy President of Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and Prof.Dr.TuncayDöğeroğlu, Deputy President of CoHe Quality Councilalso participated in the meeting. In the 11th Directors’ Meeting, with 16 sessions conducted by 42 speakers and panellists, while problems related to foreign language teaching in higher education were being discussed, topics such as steps towards increasing quality in foreign language teaching and applying standard practices and the scopes of pre/in-service training for teachers were touched upon. In addition, directors and instructors working in the curriculum, professional development and testing units of the school of foreign languages had the opportunity to come together and share information and experiences.
