Prof. Dr. Volker Hegelheimer (M.A., Ph.D., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) works as a professor in Applied Linguistics and Technology program at Iowa State University. He investigates technologies used for language learning and language assessment. His studies have been published in the major journals of the field including Language Learning & Technology, Language Testing, System, Computer-Assisted Language Learning, ReCALL, and CALICO Journal. He has completed several projects funded by important agencies and companies such as Pearson, Educational Testing Service, and the National Science Foundation.
About the Seminar: Computer-assisted language learning (CALL) is often out of reach for practitioners without immediate access to in-service training. However, for CALL to have a global impact, it is essential to train language professionals in all contexts. This presentation discusses one such effort, a CALL-based online course named Using Educational Technology in the English Language Classroom, which was developed and implemented in hopes of enhancing global awareness of sound pedagogical and technological resources that can be implemented by ESL/EFL teachers.
