The Social Sciences University of Ankara was founded as a research university in 2013 in Ulus. Ulus is the place where the Republic was founded and is therefore historically important. The university members celebrated the 5th anniversary, after planting trees in the backyard of the rectorate, with media representatives in Ankara Palas.

A large number of bureaucrats, deputies and academicians, as well as the ASBU family also attended the celebration program. Yılmaz Tuna, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Development, who contributed to the foundation and development of ASBU, Karabük Member of Parliament and also the former rector of the University of Karabük, Dr. Burhanettin Uysal and Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Finance,  Cengiz Yavilioğlu  made speeches and celebrated the 5th year of the ASBU.

In the program, first the founder rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Demir and then other academic and administrative, former employees of ASBU received “Thank you" plaques. Host Prof. Dr. Mehmet Barca opened his speech with thanks to the guests and the ASBU family. His speech:

“Founded with five faculties and five institutes, the university aims to play a pioneering role in social science research as the first and only state university in social sciences after the thematic university examples in the fields of engineering, health and arts.

In 2013, the Social Sciences University of Ankara started with 25 academic and 53 administrative staff, consisting of experts and lecturers. Today, we have 30 professors, 11 associate professors, 59 assistant professors, 100 faculty members and 114 instructors, in total 224 academic staff, 109 administrative and 100 support staff. Together with a total of 433 employees, the university has become a medium-sized institution in 5 years.

Currently, our university has an indoor space of 104 thousand m2, with the old government building on Hükümet Square, the financial office, the National Real Estate and Sumerbank, the finance education center, the DÖSİM buildings of the Ministry of Culture, behind the first and second Parliament Buildings and Buildings on Çankırı Street.

Our university started its education activities in 2016 and enrolled students for 13 graduate 4 undergraduate programs. Although the university enrolled students for the first time, we made it to the top ten universities in Turkey. This success has been a strong sign and motivation for the future position.

As part of the development plan, the university intends to have a student population of 10 thousand, an education in English with 70% postgraduate and 30% undergraduate students, and 30% foreign academics and students.

The focus of the ASBU university model is on research centers. The common feature of research universities is that they have a large number of research centers. The information produced in the research centers is transformed into information expansion in faculties and institutes and into economic benefit in Sociocities. ASBU aims to implement the application of social sciences by establishing a large number of laboratories for behaviour, big data management and simulation.

Our university intends to prioritize research fields and to offer resources and skills to these fields in order to come to the fore. The ASBU research model is to be realized by establishing research centers in prioritized research fields, awarding research grants, supporting research, promoting interdisciplinary work and hiring experts. With this research model, ASBU aims to educate academicians and researchers of our country and region.

Social Sciences University of Ankara aims to educate undergraduate students in research projects with a research-oriented approach in education and to contribute them to the production of knowledge as a researcher. With the additional curricula developed, ASBU prefers to educate not only the experts demanded by the market but also the intellectuals who direct the future. ASBU aims to educate academicians and researchers in the region.

ASBU will lead a new policy with Sociocities. Sociocities, which are a social version of technoparks, will provide an institutional infrastructure for transforming social knowledge into innovative products. In our country, where social knowledge has been transformed into little benefit, Sociocity will act as a leverage for transformation of innovative social knowledge into utility. ASBU is an entrepreneurial university, in addition to being a research university.

ASBU considers transforming experiences into museums and exhibition spaces, in areas, where the Republic was established, as a social responsibility.

A wide range of museums and exhibition spaces, such as the Treasury Museum, the Istiklal Court Museum, the Public Enterprises Museum and the Ankara Administrative Museum, will shed light on our recent history and will be one of the most important projects for the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic.

ASBU will provide a new and qualified social sector in Ulus, the center of Ankara with its 10 thousand students consisting mainly of master and doctorate students. Our goal is to transform Ulus into a science culture and art island in accordance with its historical and spiritual mission.

With its research, education, pioneering, and social responsibility projects, ASBU sets itself the vision of being a university in the country, one is proud of.”

After prizes were handed out to 12 academics and administrative, the celebration ended with the slicing of the cake for the 5th anniversary and a cocktail.
