Richard W. Bulliet (PhD Harvard, 1967) is a professor emeritus of history at Columbia University who specializes in the history of Islamic society and institutions, the history of technology, and the history of the role of animals in human society. He is the author of many scholarly works, including Cotton, Climate, and Camels in Early Islamic Iran: A Moment in History ( Columbia, 2011); Hunters, Herders, and Hamburgers (Columbia, 2007); The Earth and Its Peoples: A Global History ( Cengage, 2014); Islam: The View from the Edge (Columbia, 1994); The Camel and the Wheel (Columbia, 1990).
Owen Miller (PhD Columbia 2015) is an assistant professor of history at Bilkent University. Dr. Miller taught at Columbia, Cornell University, Pratt, Emerson and Union Colleges. His primary fields of research are Ottoman-US relations, lowland-upland relations and global histories of missionaries He has produced several articles in various journals, including Journal of the Ottoman and Turkish Studies Association, the Muslim World, and Études arméniennes contemporaines.
