EduMAP, conducted by ASBU Higher Education Center (ASBÜ-YÖM) and part of Horizon 2020, one of the EU's most prestigious research projects, is finalized with a closing workshop on January 24 at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Ankara.

In 2016, the EduMAP project on Adult Education as a Means for Active Participatory Citizenship was adopted by receiving the highest score from the European Commission. 8 universities from 7 European Union countries participated in the project. Assoc. Prof. Armağan Erdoğan got involved in the EduMAP Project, coordinated by the Tampere University in Finland, with the Higher Education Center of the Social Sciences University of Ankara in Turkey. For this purpose, it was aimed to identify the current situation and problems and to offer a solution by examining the best practices in practice and to establish an Intelligent Decision Support System throughout Europe. The project's field study sought answers to the question of how adult education policies and programs for young adults between the ages of 16-30 could be developed. The Turkey Group treated adult education programs for Syrian refugees as good examples of Turkey and presented them in the project reports.

Researchers from public institutions, international organizations, representatives of non-governmental organizations and universities attended the Closing Workshop. In his speech at the opening of the workshop, Rector of the Social Sciences University of Ankara Prof. Dr. Mehmet Barca stated that our university, which is a research-oriented and thematic university, attaches importance to international research and social innovation. MEB Lifelong Learning General Manager of the Ministry of Education, Mehmet Nezir Gul explained Turkey's lifelong learning strategies and that courses for people of all ages and levels are organized for their active participation in society. Deputy Head of European Union Delegation, Ambassador Gabriel Manuera Vinals spoke in his speech about the European Union's programs and support for science and innovation and the satisfaction of Turkey's participation in these programs. He congratulated on the completion of the project.

At the beginning of the main sessions of the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Armağan Erdoğan, coordinator of the Turkish group and Director of the Higher Education Center of the Social Sciences University of Ankara, gave a speech on the evaluation of the results. After that, Dr. Decker explained the adult education programs in Turkey for young adults at risk of being excluded from society. Finally, Dr. Onur Unutulmaz talked about the importance of adult education for Syrian refugees and the community centers offering other services with a holistic approach, which can be exemplary to Europe. Sultanbeyli Refugee Association said they are examining the Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (SGDD-ASAM) as good examples.

In the last session, Prof. Dr. Murat Erdoğan, Director of the Center for Migration and Integration Research at the Turkish-German University, who served as an external expert in the research, launched roundtable discussions by emphasizing the importance education of young adults at risk, especially refugees in Turkey, and  the importance of adult education in terms of participation and integration in society as active individuals. The meeting ended with participants' active contributions and question session.
